Wound Sleuth

A 95-year-old bed-bound female, with a left-sided meningioma was seen in a long-term care ward for what was assessed to be a stage 2 pressure injury in the sacral area. She was considered to be palliative and at end of life. Her main complaint was significant pain at the site of her wound both while in the chair and in bed.

Since there were some concerns that infection was causing her pain, a course of antibiotics was started. Upon completion of her antibiotic therapy, the wound was smaller and drier than before, but the pain persisted. What was the cause of the pain, and how would you treat it? What factors need to be considered when setting goals of care?

Three events in one! Wounds Canada’s Virtual Fall Conference
 

Canada’s largest wound-related educational event has gone virtual! In response to COVID-19, Wounds Canada will be hosting its first ever virtual conference. In celebration of their 25th anniversary, this live, online event is a combination of three annual events:

  1. Regional Conference Stream: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wounds Canada’s spring regional conference in Alberta was postponed. Now, we are pleased to present this event on Wednesday, October 14th as the first day of our 5-day mega wound-care event. This stream will feature sessions tailored to the specific concerns of health-care professionals in Alberta and will be led by Alberta’s top wound care experts.
  2. National conference stream: This conference stream will be similar to our previous annual fall conferences, with experts from across Canada presenting a national perspective on key issues in wound care.
  3. Annual limb preservation symposium: This stream is being held in collaboration with the Canadian Podiatric Medical Association.

This five-day event features 42 live unsponsored educational sessions, 14 sponsored sessions and two oral poster presentation sessions, all delivered by regional, national and international experts.
 
The interactive virtual conference platform also features a Poster Hall, Networking Lounge and Exhibit Hall where you can interact with delegates, speakers and industry representatives.
