Wounds Canada aims to enhance skin health and wound care for all Canadians in part by supporting researchers working in the areas of wound prevention and/or management. The 2024 Wounds Canada Research Impact Awards are designed to encourage researchers in disseminating their work to inform quality improvement in wound care. You may be eligible to apply for a Wounds Canada Research Impact Quality Improvement (QI) Award If you have published research related to diabetic foot ulcer or pressure injury within the past four years.
Two awards are available:
1) Wounds Canada Research Impact Quality Improvement Award for Diabetic Foot Ulcer ($1000 CDN)
2) Wounds Canada Research Impact Quality Improvement Award for Pressure Injury ($1000 CDN)
To receive either award, the applicant must be a Wounds Canada member in good standing and preference will be given to applicants who have not been a previous recipient of a Wounds Canada award or grant.

Wounds Canada Research Impact Quality Improvement Award for Diabetic Foot Ulcer
($1000 CDN)
The Wounds Canada Research Impact Quality Improvement Award for Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU) was created to support researchers in disseminating their research to improve the quality of care for persons living with DFUs.
Eligibility
- The principal investigator must be:
- A Canadian citizen or permanent resident currently active in the area of wound prevention or management research in Canada
- A Wounds Canada member in good standing
- Preference will be given to applicants who have not been a previous recipient of an award/grant
- Ethics standards for the published research were met as determined by the relevant Research Ethics Review Board
Criteria
- The research study mush have been published between January 2020 and January 2024
- The study must have been published in a peer-reviewed Canadian or International journal
- Applicants to identify how the research outcomes from the publication are informing relevant QI initiatives in DFU and demonstrating measurable outcomes for practitioners/policy makers and/or patients
- Preference will given to applicants who utilize an interprofessional approach in their research and/or its impact
- Preference will be given to projects that reflect sustained impacts
- Preference will be given to research that can be scaled up and/or can be replicated
Reporting Requirements
Successful applicants will be required to present their research at the Wounds Canada National Hybrid Conference in London, Ontario from October 17-19, 2024.
Accommodation and travel will be the recipient's responsibility. The conference registration fee will be covered by Wounds Canada.
Review
Wounds Canada's Award Selection Committee will review applications and make its decision based on the extent to which the research and its application address the award criteria including:
- Meets the requirements for research and its publication in a peer-reviewed journal
- Can be scaled up or can be replicated
- Is relevant to the critical needs in DFU prevention and management
- Impacts or shows promise in impacting practice/policy change related to DFU
- Impacts or shows promise in improving patient outcomes related to DFU
- Involves the interprofessional team
- Addresses sustainability of change in practice/policy and or client outcomes
The Award Selection Committee members consist of:
- Researchers in the area of wound database management, incidence and prevalence, healing and economic analysis
- Clinical expert(s) in the area of skin and wounds
- Representative(s) of Wounds Canada

The Wounds Canada Research Impact Quality Improvement Award for Pressure Injury was created to support researchers in disseminating their research to improve the quality of care for persons with PI.
Eligibility
- The principal investigator must be:
- A Canadian citizen or permanent resident currently active in the area of wound prevention or management research in Canada
- A Wounds Canada member in good standing
- Preference will be given to applicants who have not been a previous recipient of a grant or award
- Ethics standards for the published research were met as determined by the relevant Research Ethics Review Board
