Wounds Canada supports Canadians who have wounds or are at risk for wounds, in part by supporting researchers working in the areas of wound prevention and/or management.  If you are conducting skin- or wound-related research, you may apply for a research grant from Wounds Canada. Two grants are currently available:

1) The Wounds Canada Open Grant ( $1000 CDN)

2) Wounds Canada  Quality Improvement Grant in Honour of Bob Willson ($1000 CDN)

To receive either research grant, the applicant must be a Wounds Canada member in good standing and not have been a prior recipient of a research grant  from Wounds Canada.

Wounds Canada Open Grant ($1000 CDN)

The Wounds Canada Open Grant was created to support researchers in any area relating to skin health and/or wound care or patient advocacy for preventative health care relating to skin health and/or wound care.

Eligibility

  • The principal investigator must be:
    • A Canadian citizen or landed immigrant currently active in the area of wound prevention or management in Canada
    • A Wounds Canada member in good standing 
    • Not a previous recipient of a grant from Wounds Canada
  • The project will:
    • Extend no more than two years
    • Focus on at least one of these categories: 
      1. Building wound databases
      2. Incidence and Prevalence
      3. Healing time
      4. Economic analysis
  • Meet ethics standards for the type of research being undertaken
  • Acknowledge Wounds Canada's contribution in published materials

Reporting Requirements

Successful applicants will be required to:

  • Report within two years that the project has been completed
  • Demonstrate within three years that the dissemination plan outlined in the application is being undertaken

Review

Wounds Canada's Grant Selection Committee will review applications and make their decisions based on the criteria listed above. The committee membership will consist of a combination of:

  • Researchers in the area wound database management, incidence and prevalence, healing and economic analysis
  • Clinical expert(s) in the area of skin and wounds
  • Representative(s) of Wounds Canada


Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • How the project supports the advancement of skin health and wound care in Canada
  • How the project meets the technical requirements of design, ethics and publication of results

Wounds Canada QI Grant in Honour of Bob Wilson ($1000 CDN)

The Quality Improvement (QI) Grant in honour of Bob Willson is created to support researchers in quality improvement measures in the prevention and management of pressure injuries . The late Bob Wilson's daughters, Sharon Wilson, Linda Moss and Patty Roperti, are a driving force in building awareness about pressure injuries and we are thankful for their generous donation for this grant.

Eligibility

  • The principal investigator must be:
    • A Canadian citizen or landed immigrant currently active in the area of wound prevention or management in Canada
    • A member in good standing of Wounds Canada
    • Not a previous recipient of a grant from Wounds Canada
  • The project will:
    • Extend no more than two years
    • Focus on implementation science in quality improvement with the following criteria: i) Barriers and solutions, ii) Education iii) Clinical and iv) Professional scope of practice
    • Meet ethics standards for the type of research being undertaken
    • Acknowledge Wounds Canada's contribution in published materials

Successful applicants will be required to:

  • Report within two years that the project has been completed
