Why take this program?

Consisting of incontinence-associated dermatitis, intertriginous dermatitis (intertrigo), periwound moisture-associated skin damage (MASD), peristomal MASD, and immersion foot (trench foot), MASD is an often overlooked yet potentially troublesome health concern. Often presenting initially as skin inflammation the condition may progress to significant inflammation, maceration and/or skin breakdown, resulting in infection, and pain and negatively affecting the patient’s quality of life. To prevent moisture-associated skin damage, it is imperative that clinicians acquire the knowledge to identify patients at risk for moisture-associated skin damage and to implement appropriate preventative and treatment measures, using a systematic approach.

Who should take this program?

Based on the content of the Wounds Canada document, Best Practice Recommendations (BPR) for the Prevention and Management of Moisture-associated Skin Damage (MASD), the aim of this self-paced, interactive program (two online modules and a live 1.5-hour long webinar) is to enhance the MASD prevention and management knowledge of nurses and allied health-care professionals. Professionals who self-identify as a novice or advanced beginners in their MASD prevention and management knowledge will benefit from this program.

What does this program offer?

This program will review the contents of the BPR document and demonstrate new knowledge by participants successfully completing knowledge check questions and applying best practices to a case study.

Following the completion of the two on-line modules, students will join expert interprofessional faculty on a webinar to discuss their success in applying their new knowledge and enablers and barriers to practice change. Using live polling, students will also discuss complex wound cases presented by faculty, demonstrating the application of best practices in the prevention and management of MASD. Webinars occur twice annually, with an archived version available for viewing should the student not be able to attend the live session.

What will I receive once this program is completed?

Once the student successfully completes all the interactive modules (courses) in this interprofessional program, they will receive a certificate of successful completion.
