Program Details

The goal of the Wound Care Champion Program (WCCP) for regulated health-care providers is to provide frontline health-care clinicians with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify persons at risk for wounds and to implement appropriate preventative and treatment measures, using a systematic, interprofessional, person-centred approach. 

This self-paced, multifaceted program (that takes an average of 80 hours to complete) will produce health-care clinicians proficient in wound prevention and care who are prepared to lead change in the health community.

  • 43 highly interactive online modules
  • 10 synchronous webinars and post-discussion board

  • 1 virtual workshop (2 three-hour sessions) and post-discussion board
  • 3 in-person skills labs (completed over two days)

  • 4 robust assignments/outcomes measures (including an objective structured clinical exam [OSCE])

Who can register?

Regulated health professionals are eligible to register in this program.

The program was designed by Wounds Canada in collaboration with the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario for regulated health-care providers who self-identify as advanced-beginners in their skin health and wound care knowledge and skills.

Why register?

Registering for the Wound Care Champion Program (WCCP) is a pivotal step for regulated health professionals looking to enhance their expertise in wound prevention and management.

Designed to empower frontline health-care clinicians, this program equips participants with the essential knowledge and skills needed to identify individuals at risk for wounds and to implement effective preventative and treatment strategies. By embracing a systematic, interprofessional and person-centred approach, the WCCP offers a comprehensive learning experience.

This self-paced, multifaceted program, requiring an average of 80 hours to complete, not only prepares clinicians to become proficient in wound prevention and care but also positions them to be leaders of change within the health community.

Upon completion, participants will receive an advanced certificate from the University of Toronto, marking their commitment to excellence in wound care and their readiness to make a significant impact in the lives of those they serve.

Expected Outcomes for Participants

  • Letter of Accreditation from Wounds Canada and the RNAO and, if a minimum of 80.0 hours has been completed:
  • An advanced Certificate of Completion in Continuing Professional Development from Wounds Canada and Continuing Professional Development, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, Wounds Canada and the RNAO
  • A Best Practice Champions Certificate from the RNAO
