Important Notice about Ministry of Long-Term Care funded seats in the AWCCP
Wounds Canada is delighted to support the Long-term Care sector in building capacity in skin health and wound care among regulated health professionals, through partnering with Long-Term Care Homes. The funding will support 150 regulated staff to complete the Accredited Wound Care Champion Program (AWCCP) and provide Long-Term Care Home Partners with staff replacement funding for enrolled staff, ensuring successful program completion. Agreements will be made with LTC Home Partners to support enrolled staff and be part of a comprehensive program impact and outcome evaluation process.

Program Details
The goal of the Accredited Wound Care Champion Program (AWCCP) for regulated health-care providers is to provide frontline health-care clinicians with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify persons at risk for wounds and to implement appropriate preventative and treatment measures, using a systematic, interprofessional, person-centred approach.
This self-paced, multifaceted program (that takes an average of 90 hours to complete) will produce health-care clinicians proficient in wound prevention and care who are prepared to lead change in the health community.

Who can register?
Regulated health professionals are eligible to register in this program.
The program was designed by Wounds Canada in collaboration with the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario for regulated health-care providers who self-identify as advanced-beginners in their skin health and wound care knowledge and skills.

Registering for the Accredited Wound Care Champion Program (AWCCP) is a pivotal step for regulated health professionals looking to enhance their expertise in wound prevention and management.
Designed to empower frontline health-care clinicians, this program equips participants with the essential knowledge and skills needed to identify individuals at risk for wounds and to implement effective preventative and treatment strategies. By embracing a systematic, interprofessional and person-centred approach, the AWCCP offers a comprehensive learning experience.
This self-paced, multifaceted program, requiring an average of 80 hours to complete, not only prepares clinicians to become proficient in wound prevention and care but also positions them to be leaders of change within the health community.
Upon completion, participants will receive an advanced certificate from the University of Toronto, marking their commitment to excellence in wound care and their readiness to make a significant impact in the lives of those they serve.
Program Accreditation and Certification
- A Letter of Accreditation from Wounds Canada and the RNAO if a minimum of 80.0 hours has been completed:
- An Advanced Certificate of Completion in Continuing Professional Development from Continuing Professional Development, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.
- A Best Practice Champions Certificate from the RNAO
- A digital micro-credential badge from Nipissing University

Each participant should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent participating in the educational program.
The Wound Care Champion Program has been micro credentialed through Nipissing University. A micro credential in health care is a credential provided to designate you have a subset of knowledge and competencies in a specific area of clinical practice—in this case skin health and wound care. The micro credential is issued by an academic institution or other authorized organization, in the form of a badge indicating you have completed a program that has met their credentialing requirements.
