Program Details
The goal of the Wound Care Champion Program (WCCP) for regulated health-care providers is to provide frontline health-care clinicians with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify persons at risk for wounds and to implement appropriate preventative and treatment measures, using a systematic, interprofessional, person-centred approach.
This self-paced, multifaceted program (that takes an average of 80 hours to complete) will produce health-care clinicians proficient in wound prevention and care who are prepared to lead change in the health community.

Who can register?
Regulated health professionals are eligible to register in this program.
The program was designed by Wounds Canada in collaboration with the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario for regulated health-care providers who self-identify as advanced-beginners in their skin health and wound care knowledge and skills.

Registering for the Wound Care Champion Program (WCCP) is a pivotal step for regulated health professionals looking to enhance their expertise in wound prevention and management.
Designed to empower frontline health-care clinicians, this program equips participants with the essential knowledge and skills needed to identify individuals at risk for wounds and to implement effective preventative and treatment strategies. By embracing a systematic, interprofessional and person-centred approach, the WCCP offers a comprehensive learning experience.
This self-paced, multifaceted program, requiring an average of 80 hours to complete, not only prepares clinicians to become proficient in wound prevention and care but also positions them to be leaders of change within the health community.
Upon completion, participants will receive an advanced certificate from the University of Toronto, marking their commitment to excellence in wound care and their readiness to make a significant impact in the lives of those they serve.
Program Accreditation and Certification
- A Letter of Accreditation from Wounds Canada and the RNAO if a minimum of 80.0 hours has been completed:
- An Advanced Certificate of Completion in Continuing Professional Development from Continuing Professional Development, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.
- A Best Practice Champions Certificate from the RNAO
- A digital micro-credential badge from Nipissing University

Each participant should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent participating in the educational program.
This one-credit-per-hour Group Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by Dalhousie University Continuing Professional Development and Medical Education for up to 84.5 MAINPRO+ credits.
As an accredited provider, Dalhousie University Continuing Professional Development and Medical Education, designates this continuing professional development activity for up to 84.5 credit hours as an accredited group learning Section 1 activity as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Through an agreement between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert Royal College MOC credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. The Wound Care Champion Program has been micro credentialed through Nipissing University. A micro credential in health care is a credential provided to designate you have a subset of knowledge and competencies in a specific area of clinical practice—in this case skin health and wound care. The micro credential is issued by an academic institution or other authorized organization, in the form of a badge indicating you have completed a program that has met their credentialing requirements.
