Wound Care Teams Are Stronger When They Embrace An Interprofessional Approach

By Joel S. Alleyne BSc (Computer Science) MISt

Abstract: We often speak of working interprofessionally in health care and in wound care. However, this term is used by different people to mean similar but different things. Accordingly, it is important to define the difference between inter-professional and other related terms (collaborative, interdisciplinary, trans-disciplinary, multidisciplinary, coordinated). We need to move from uniprofessional. past multiprofessional, to interprofessional teams. Careful and deliberate planning is required to create high-functioning interprofessional teams. Patient-centred teams have significant benefits and improve outcomes.
