This chapter provides background on the common causes of moisture-associated skin damage (MASD), such as incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD), intertriginous dermatitis (intertrigo or ITD), periwound MASD, peristomal MASD and immersion foot (trench foot), to aid clinicians in their ability to identify and differentiate the various types of MASD and to identify those at risk. It uses the Wound Prevention and Management Cycle as a guide to assist clinicians with strategies to prevent and manage all forms of MASD.
