Mariam Botros, DCH, DE, IIWCC

As the CEO of Wounds Canada, Mariam Botros, I am thrilled to speak to you today about a matter very close to my heart—International Women's Day. This day serves not just as a celebration of the remarkable achievements of women around the globe but also as a crucial reminder of the ongoing journey towards gender equality and empowerment in every facet of our lives, including healthcare.

Our mission at Wounds Canada is to build a healthier Canada by advancing skin health and excellence in wound management. A pivotal part of this mission involves recognizing and harnessing the unique contributions of women in healthcare, from the front-line workers to the leaders’ shaping policies and innovations. Women play an indispensable role in the healthcare system, offering perspectives that enrich and enhance our understanding and approach to care, including the complex realm of wound prevention and management.

This International Women's Day, I encourage every member of the Wounds Canada community to engage in activities that celebrate women's achievements and contribute to their empowerment. Whether it's through participating in local events, advocating for women in healthcare, or simply sharing stories of inspirational women on social media, your involvement can make a significant difference.

Moreover, as we reflect on this year's theme, let us also commit to creating more inclusive and equitable environments within our fields. By doing so, we not only honor the spirit of International Women's Day but also further our mission to improve healthcare outcomes across Canada. Let's take this opportunity to support and uplift the incredible women in our lives and in our professional circles, recognizing their contributions to advancing skin health and excellence in wound management.

Together, let's pledge to continue breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and fostering a healthcare landscape where women's contributions are celebrated, and their potential fully realized. This International Women’s Day let's unite in our efforts to create a healthier, more equitable Canada for all.

Thank you, and let's make this International Women's Day a truly impactful one.
