Abstract: Melissa Coates was a professional body builder model and wrestler who underwent the amputation of her left leg at the age of 51, due to acute limb ischemia (ABI), eventually passing away within the year. This article offers a personal perspective on signs that were missed and steps that could have been taken along the way to dramatically impact outcomes, and presents a case for greater awareness and education on limb loss prevention.
